8 tips for creating the perfect company brochure

A well-designed company brochure is an extremely powerful marketing tool. The quality of your brochure reflects your brand and shapes how your customers (and prospective customers) view your company. It just has to be right, from the design of the brochure through to the quality of the print.

Here are a few tips for creating the perfect company brochure:

1.       Know the purpose before you start – What do you want to achieve from your brochure? Is it to improve your brand image? Outline the depth of your products/services? Are they being mailed out to 1000’s of potential customers? All of these factors will have an influence in the design aspect and the material these are printed on.

2.       “Sign Post” the reader – Every brochure should be organised so that the reader can easily find what they want. Consider having a “contents” page or use “sign posting”.

3.       Be creative and unique –  With the help of your creative designer and print company, make sure that your brochure is creative. This doesn’t have to be expensive, there are cost effective ways to make your brochure stand out that your designer and printer should be aware of. Consider using die-cuts to create a bespoke shaped brochure or having an out of the ordinary size that will really make your brochure stand out.

4.       Make sure that you use high quality images – using low resolution, poor quality images will have a negative effect on how your company, brand and products are viewed. Consider getting a professional photographer. Speak to your designer/printer – they will have used product photographers in the past and will be able to point you in the right direction.

5.       Speak to your designer and printer – Sit down with your designer and printer and run through exactly what you want to achieve from this brochure. They will have have experience of what looks great and what doesn’t. Use them as a “sounding board” and bounce ideas off each other.

6.       Stand out from the crowd – Add special finishes such as foiling, spot UV varnish or a special laminate. Ask your printer for some ideas and samples of special finishes they have done previously. Make sure that your potential customer remembers your brochure!

7.       Choose your words carefully – The words that you use are as important as the images so choose these carefully. Be informative but concise and don’t use acronyms or abbreviations. You could consider using a copy writer.

8.       Check and double check – It is so important to properly proof read your brochure. Consider having several “sets of eyes” to look over it or even the use of a professional proof reader. Nothing looks worse than spelling mistakes or bad grammar in a brochure and it’s your responsibility to make sure there are no mistakes.
